Theory of Everything (TOE)
This article will first talk about the Theory of Everything from the scientific point of view, and then the Theory of Everything from the philosophical point of view.
Theory of Everything from scientific point of view:
Scientists have been looking for the theory of everything. Firstly, why are they looking for the theory of everything, and why do they think there is another theory out there, or that why our current understanding is incomplete? In science, we have two sets of laws that govern two extreme ends of the universe, quantum mechanics governing the very small (atom level) and general relativity + gravity that governs the very big (stars/galaxy level). Scientists are asking why should there be two laws that govern the same stuff in the universe. In other words, atoms and galaxies both exist in the same universe – though at different scale – but why do they obey different sets of natural laws? Why don’t atoms and galaxies obey the same laws? – after all they exist in the same universe. And thus, this is why scientists think the current scientific understanding is incomplete, and thus they are searching for that theory of everything – a theory that unifies the two scales – the very small and the very big. However, that path is a dead end because there is no unifying theory. In fact we have discovered everything, just that there are two laws that govern the same universe – quantum mechanics that governs the very small and gravity+general relativity that governs the very big.
The reason has to do with human being at the center of the universe in terms of scale/size. Again, God created the universe to have relationship with human.
Humans stand at the center, and then She designed the universe around them. At the smallest end that human can see is an atom, and at the largest end is the galaxy. The two ends are the limits of this universe or boundaries of this game world from human’s perspective. Thus, the Designer/God designed two sets of law to govern each end of the boundaries.
We actually have already discovered all the major natural laws, they happened to be two sets of laws. Therefore there is no theory of everything in terms of what scientists are looking for – a theory that unifies the very small and the very big. The two scales can not be unified.
Theory of Everything from philosophical point of view:
There is a Theory of Everything from the philosophical perspective. Intuitively, we sense there must be a theory that explains everything. But how could we explain everything/universe without including the designer of everything. A theory that includes God. And thus, the Theory of Everything is actually a belief system that bridges theology and science. This is why we believe our belief system contains the Theory of Everything because it truly explains everything – the universe and God.
