Fasting
We fast once a month. Fasting falls on the first Saturday of each month.
The duration of the fast is 36 hours. For example: we finish dinner at 9pm on Friday night, then we can break our fast after 9 am on Sunday.
Fasting consists of no solid food. Water is allowed.
There are a few reasons we chose to incorporate fasting into our belief system.
Many of us have access to abundant amount of food. And with all this abundance can lead to excess and over eating, which can lead to disease and illness. Having the ritual to fast on a regular basis provides a way to discipline our will/body/gut, which in turn helps us to maintain better physical health.
Caring for our body is an important duty to God in our belief system. Fasting for a period of 36 hours every month will help flush out our digestive system allowing it to reset. Fasting gives time for our digestive system to rest and relax.
(Children under 16, and people with medical reasons can be exempt from fasting.)
